Patrick Spencer MP: speeches

4 Jul 2026–16 Oct 2026 · year in progress

How these years work

Our reporting years run from 4 July to 3 July, starting with the 2024 general election. They are not official parliamentary sessions. Office costs keep IPSA’s April–March financial years. Records may cover only part of a year; a missing record does not mean no work was done.

Speeches

  • 15 Sept 2026 · Imprisonment for Public Protection Sentences · Hansard source
    More

Earlier this month, John Dunne was convicted of trying to meet a 14-year-old boy at a train station in Suffolk. He received a two-year sentence, reduced from three after a guilty plea. This still seems lenient, considering that Mr Dunne has already served a life sentence for rape and murder. Our community and country will never be safe when we release people who are clearly not functioning in society. I have written to the Attorney General about this sentence, but if the Government are considering changes to IPP, what is their plan for keeping children safe in situations like this?

  • 14 Sept 2026 · Curriculum and Assessment Review · Hansard source

Over the weekend, the Secretary of State backtracked on an interview she gave to The Observer where she said she wanted to reintroduce coursework. For the record, we were very pleased to hear that, but in the same interview she made a number of other commitments, including reducing the number of exams that children take at age 16 and introducing a GCSE in football coaching. Which of those commitments does she still stand by?

  • 8 Sept 2026 · Safety of the Jewish Community · Hansard source
    More

Earlier this year, I met the Suffolk Liberal Jewish Community. Who thought that there would be such an organisation thriving in the genteel countryside of Suffolk? On the point about antisemitism across the country, will the hon. Lady join me in paying tribute to the small organisations that go out of their way to combat antisemitism and support Jewish communities across the UK?

  • 7 Sept 2026 · Topical Questions · Hansard source
    More

Campsea Ashe is a tiny village with 100 residents, no school, no high street and no major employer, but it has a train station and a planning application that would double the size of the village. If the Secretary of State will not reconsider this blanket policy, will she at least intervene on this specific application?
