Sarah Coombes MP: speeches

4 Jul 2025–3 Jul 2026

How these years work

Our reporting years run from 4 July to 3 July, starting with the 2024 general election. They are not official parliamentary sessions. Office costs keep IPSA’s April–March financial years. Records may cover only part of a year; a missing record does not mean no work was done.

T5. Forced adoptions are a shameful stain on the history of our country, so I was very pleased to see the Secretary of State announce that the Government will apologise for the scandal. Does she agree that the campaigners who have worked so hard for so long to secure that decision deserve our thanks for bringing to light something that, for too long, was shrouded in misplaced shame?

  • 22 Jun 2026 · Schools Funding · Hansard source
    More

    4. What steps she is taking with Cabinet colleagues to increase levels of funding for schools.

  • 19 Mar 2026 · Serious Fraud Office · Hansard source

Last week, I met a mother from my constituency who told me a terrible story. In October, her daughters were taken by their father, supposedly for a day out at the fair, but they never came home. It seems he has abducted them and taken them out of the country, either to Afghanistan or to Pakistan. Can the Minister set out what the Government can do about these kinds of abductions, and will he meet me to discuss how we get these little girls home?

  • 20 Nov 2025 · Topical Questions · Hansard source
    More

T1. If she will make a statement on her departmental responsibilities.

  • 11 Sept 2025 · UK Ambassador to the US: Appointment Process · Hansard source
    More

I agree with the Minister’s utter condemnation of all the horrendous crimes of Jeffrey Epstein. Does he agree that as soon as this new information came to light, the Government took decisive action very swiftly, which is different from the Conservatives? When they were in government and there were serious misgivings, it was actually the independent ethics adviser who ended up resigning.

  • 3 Sept 2025 · Hospitality Sector · Hansard source
    More

Last week, saw the opening of West Bromwich’s brand-new indoor market and the return of the much-loved Firkins bakery. People were queuing from 7 am for the famous lemon iced buns that Firkins has sold for many years. Does the Minister agree that food and hospitality are at the heart of our high streets, would he like to come to taste one of those iced buns, and does he agree that that is what we can achieve when Labour Governments work with Labour councils and communities?
