Sarah Coombes MP: speeches

4 Jul 2024–3 Jul 2025

How these years work

Our reporting years run from 4 July to 3 July, starting with the 2024 general election. They are not official parliamentary sessions. Office costs keep IPSA’s April–March financial years. Records may cover only part of a year; a missing record does not mean no work was done.

Speeches

  • 16 Jun 2025 · Air India Plane Crash · Hansard source

Will the Minister say a bit more about our ongoing support for the Indian Government and how we can give my constituents in West Bromwich confidence when they go to visit their family in India?

  • 29 Apr 2025 · Kashmir: Increasing Tension · Hansard source
    More

People in India and around the world were horrified last week by the news of the terror attack in which 26 innocent tourists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones. This was an appalling attack, aimed clearly at destabilising the situation in Kashmir. In my constituency, I have large Pakistani, Indian and Kashmiri communities, and many of my constituents are now very concerned about an escalation of tensions in the region. How are the British Government working with the Indian Government to provide support in the wake of this terror attack, and what more can the Minister say about the constructive role Britain must play in finding a diplomatic resolution?

I am grateful to the Minister and the Government for announcing these fitting tributes to VE and VJ Day and to all those who fought and died for our country. The West Bromwich Royal Naval Association club and the Oldbury Royal British Legion do really important work locally supporting and providing companionship for local veterans. Will the Minister join me in paying tribute to them and in encouraging everyone to get involved in the celebrations that they will be organising?

  • 19 Dec 2024 · Knife Offences · Hansard source
    More

Merry Christmas to you and the team, Mr Speaker. A couple of weeks ago, people in West Bromwich were met with the terrifying sight of young people wearing balaclavas and wielding machetes running around the town centre in broad daylight. It was a shocking, dangerous incident that has put people off going into the town centre. What is the Solicitor General doing to work with other Ministers to crack down on these zombie-style knives and ensure our town centres are safe?

  • 19 Dec 2024 · Knife Offences · Hansard source
    More

    7. What recent discussions she has had with Cabinet colleagues on prosecuting knife offences.

  • 16 Dec 2024 · Royal Mail Takeover · Hansard source
    More

On Friday morning, I visited the West Brom Royal Mail sorting office and saw the fantastic work that the staff there do. Many of the posties have worked there for decades, and one for as long as 40 years. How will this deal protect Royal Mail and, critically, the postmen and postwomen who are so important to our communities?

  • 14 Nov 2024 · Fly-tipping · Hansard source
    More

    7. What steps he plans to take to help tackle fly-tipping.

  • 9 Oct 2024 · Engagements · Hansard source

Q2. One of the biggest issues in my constituency is poor access to GP services. Our GP satisfaction rate is 15% below the national average. I thank the Government for their focus on improving the situation. What are they doing to ensure that everyone in West Bromwich can actually see their GP?

  • 5 Sept 2024 · Industrial Strategy · Hansard source
    More

    2. What recent progress his Department has made on introducing an industrial strategy.
