Josh Fenton-Glynn MP: speeches

4 Jul 2024–3 Jul 2025

How these years work

Our reporting years run from 4 July to 3 July, starting with the 2024 general election. They are not official parliamentary sessions. Office costs keep IPSA’s April–March financial years. Records may cover only part of a year; a missing record does not mean no work was done.

Speeches

  • 2 Jul 2025 · Rare Cancers Bill · Hansard source
    More

Constituencies in Yorkshire, such as the one I represent, do particularly poorly with research funding—I think 5% of research funding for cancer trials goes to the area. With this Bill and a renewed focus on cancer, I hope we will look to expand the number of research-active hospitals to give people throughout the country a better chance.

  • 30 Jun 2025 · Welfare Reform · Hansard source
    More

As a signatory to the reasoned amendment, I welcome the listening that has gone on, because a lot of people with disabilities will sleep more soundly in their beds knowing that their benefits are protected. However, on a specific point, if someone currently receives PIP but their condition is getting worse and they ask for a reassessment of the level of their PIP, will they be assessed under the current system or under the new one?

  • 20 May 2025 · Victims and Courts Bill · Hansard source
    More

I know that my hon. Friend cares deeply about this issue. In the course of the passage of the Bill, will the Government look at amendments that could see the family courts end the presumption of contact and ensure we end this cycle of abuse?

  • 20 May 2025 · UK-EU Summit · Hansard source
    More

Calder Valley is home to many of the small and medium-sized enterprises that simply stopped trading with Europe because of the disastrous deal agreed by the Conservatives. Can the Prime Minister assure me that he will not stop here with this deal, but will continue to work to open more of our borders to more of our businesses?

  • 28 Apr 2025 · SEND Funding · Hansard source
    More

    9. What steps she is taking to ensure sustainable funding for SEND provision in schools.

  • 17 Mar 2025 · Domestic Abuse Offences · Hansard source
    More

I thank the hon. Member for Eastbourne (Josh Babarinde) for bringing forward this really important debate. I absolutely agree that more needs to be done in the family courts, and I welcome what has been done so far, but does my hon. Friend agree that we also need to look at the rules around presumption of contact, particularly for children, where domestic abuse is involved? We need to update those in order to ensure that get away from the assumption that contact with an abuser is advantageous to a child’s welfare.

  • 26 Feb 2025 · Child Maintenance Service · Hansard source
    More

My hon. Friend will know that getting it right for the most vulnerable children is important, but we are increasingly seeing post-separation abuse and post-separation financial abuse coming to light. Indeed, the report from Gingerbread that I cited earlier said that 45% of people who report post-separation financial abuse say that it gets worse when the CMS is involved. I hope that any report into the work of the CMS and supporting vulnerable families will look at that question and help us get some answers on that issue.

  • 5 Feb 2025 · Domestic Violence Prevention Services · Hansard source
    More

In her 2022 report, the Domestic Abuse Commissioner warned of “A Patchwork of Provision” in local services. Just six in 10 victims reported being able to access a helpline, and only four in 10 reported being able to obtain refuge accommodation. Local organisations such as WomenCentre Calderdale and Kirklees do fantastic work for my constituents, but not all victims and survivors have the right support when they need it. Will the Minister ensure that the upcoming violence against women and girls strategy includes a requirement for the Government to engage with the sector so that women across the country receive consistent care and support?

  • 5 Feb 2025 · Domestic Violence Prevention Services · Hansard source
    More

    1. What assessment she has made with Cabinet colleagues of the accessibility of domestic violence prevention services for women.

  • 7 Jan 2025 · Care Quality Commission · Hansard source
    More

    7. Whether he has made an assessment of the effectiveness of improvements made to the Care Quality Commission.

  • 7 Jan 2025 · Care Quality Commission · Hansard source
    More

It is inarguable that the CQC needs improvement. Many who run care services in local authorities have little confidence in its performance. Does my hon. Friend agree that we could go some way to improving how it is viewed by looking at the use of single-word assessments, which create undue stress for social services leads? They were raised by the Dash review as insufficient to support local authorities to improve, promoting box-ticking over real improvement and giving little information to members of the public on the quality of social services provision.

  • 19 Dec 2024 · Hospice Funding · Hansard source
    More

Does the Minister agree that the amazing staff at Overgate hospice in my constituency should be focused this Christmas on caring for their patients and not on funding? Will she confirm that this funding allows them to do so? Also, in April I will be running the London marathon for the Overgate hospice’s big build appeal. Will the Minister sponsor me?

  • 11 Dec 2024 · Finance Bill · Hansard source
    More

The numbers are from the House of Commons Library.

  • 11 Dec 2024 · Finance Bill · Hansard source
    More

Will the shadow Minister give way?

  • 11 Dec 2024 · Finance Bill · Hansard source
    More

  • 9 Dec 2024 · Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill · Hansard source
    More

I completely understand that we are asking people to consider something that they have never experienced or had to consider, but is that not what we do with fire regulations?

  • 4 Dec 2024 · Employer National Insurance Contributions · Hansard source
    More

Will the hon. Lady give way?

  • 10 Oct 2024 · Universities: Freedom of Speech · Hansard source
    More

Under the Office for Students’ draft guidance, some universities have said they will have to revoke their adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism for fear that it might contravene the legislation. Does my hon. Friend agree that that highlights why it is so important to get the legislation right and that it is right to be cautious about how we implement any such legislation?
