Hannah Spencer MP: written questions

4 Jul 2026–16 Oct 2026 · year in progress

How these years work

Our reporting years run from 4 July to 3 July, starting with the 2024 general election. They are not official parliamentary sessions. Office costs keep IPSA’s April–March financial years. Records may cover only part of a year; a missing record does not mean no work was done.

Question: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what assessment her Department has made of the potential impact of the El Niño weather event on the cost of food for British consumers.

Answer: We are aware of the potential impact that an El Niño can have on global agricultural production and therefore the price of food in the UK. There remains considerable uncertainty about its impact at this stage. We will continue to monitor the situation.
