Gregory Stafford MP: speeches
4 Jul 2025–3 Jul 2026
How these years work
Our reporting years run from 4 July to 3 July, starting with the 2024 general election. They are not official parliamentary sessions. Office costs keep IPSA’s April–March financial years. Records may cover only part of a year; a missing record does not mean no work was done.

Speeches
- 16 Jun 2026 · Russian Oil Sales · Hansard source
More
4. What diplomatic steps she is taking with international partners to help prevent the sale of Russian oil to companies in China, Turkey and India.
- 1 Jun 2026 · Child Sexual Offender Data · Hansard source
More
Although I accept the hon. Gentleman’s wider point, given that we are about to have a national grooming gang inquiry that Opposition Members had to drag the Government, kicking and screaming, to do, would it not be helpful for that inquiry to have the data? Surely sunlight is the best disinfectant on this issue?
- 23 Apr 2026 · Topical Questions · Hansard source
More
Yes.
- 23 Apr 2026 · Topical Questions · Hansard source

On a point of order, Mr Speaker.
- 23 Apr 2026 · Topical Questions · Hansard source
More
In response to my question about Jonathan Powell’s security clearance, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister said: “I do not have that information to hand.”
- 23 Apr 2026 · Topical Questions · Hansard source
More
Thank you, Mr Speaker. The Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister said that he did not have the information to hand but did not indicate whether he was going to let me know what the answer was when he did have that information to hand. If the Chief Secretary does not provide me with a written answer to that question, what opportunities do I have in this House to get him to answer it?
- 23 Apr 2026 · Topical Questions · Hansard source
More
T7. Happy St George’s day, Mr Speaker. When was Jonathan Powell appointed as the Prime Minister’s special envoy to the British Indian Ocean Territory, and what security clearance was he given on appointment.
- 20 Apr 2026 · Security Vetting · Hansard source
More
On 4 February, my right hon. Friend the Leader of the Opposition asked the Prime Minister whether the vetting process had disclosed information about Epstein. The Prime Minister answered, “Yes, it did.” In his response to my right hon. Friend the Member for New Forest West (Sir Desmond Swayne), he said, “I got confused between vetting and disclosure,” but in answer to my hon. Friend the Member for South West Devon (Rebecca Smith), he said that he knew the difference. If that is not misleading the House, what is?
- 13 Apr 2026 · Family Voting · Hansard source
More
6. What steps his Department is taking to help prevent family voting in UK elections.
- 13 Apr 2026 · SEND Provision and Reform · Hansard source
More
I entirely support what my hon. Friend is saying, and I think the idea that anyone on this side is wholly endorsing the current system is a false one. My fear, however—which I think my hon. Friend is expressing—is that, under the current proposals in the White Paper, if he unfortunately has to proceed through the tribunal system, the tribunal will be no longer be able to allocate a specific provision for parents and child, which essentially renders the whole thing null and void. Does he agree that we should be asking the Government not to rip up their proposals, but to listen to the concerns that parents are expressing about their changes and tweak them, so that they can be responsive to the problems that he is raising?
- 23 Mar 2026 · Topical Questions · Hansard source
More
T7. Given the ongoing national security concerns, including the risk of foreign interference in elections, will the Home Secretary set out what her Department is doing to ensure that individuals convicted of terrorism offences are prevented from standing for elected office in the UK?
- 23 Mar 2026 · Puberty Blockers Clinical Trial · Hansard source
More
Will the Minister give way?
- 16 Mar 2026 · Lord Mandelson: Response to Humble Address · Hansard source
More
Two weeks ago, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister gave me two pithy answers, so I ask him to do the same this week. First, did Peter Mandelson receive top-secret so-called STRAP security clearance? Secondly—we will try this question once again—did Peter Mandelson submit a declaration of interests? I want a yes or no to both those questions.
- 5 Mar 2026 · Local Museums · Hansard source
More
It is taxpayers’ money.
- 5 Mar 2026 · Local Museums · Hansard source
More
I think I made the point very clearly to the hon. Member for Thurrock (Jen Craft), but I will repeat it now. My concern is not about museums representing accurately what happened in the past—that is obvious. What I am against is museums using taxpayers’ money to push a current political cause. Extinction Rebellion is not a historical organisation. It is active now, and museums should not be pushing its agenda.
- 5 Mar 2026 · Peter Mandelson: Release of Information · Hansard source
More
Can the Minister confirm whether the head of the Government’s propriety and ethics team was appointed without an external recruitment process or written ministerial sign-off, in an apparent breach of its own rules? If so, is this further proof of a lack of transparency and accountability, and of a failure to uphold the propriety and ethics at the heart of this Government?
- 5 Mar 2026 · Peter Mandelson: Release of Information · Hansard source
More
19. What recent progress he has made on implementing the humble Address of 4 February 2026.
- 5 Mar 2026 · Topical Questions · Hansard source
More
A few moments ago, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster indicated to me that the appointment of the head of the propriety and ethics team was done by an external recruitment process. Will he tell me how many other people were interviewed?
- 3 Mar 2026 · Jimmy Lai · Hansard source
More
7. What recent discussions she has had with her Chinese counterparts on the release of Jimmy Lai.
- 2 Mar 2026 · Middle East · Hansard source
More
I associate myself with the Prime Minister’s comments about our service personnel in Bahrain and Akrotiri, which I had the pleasure of visiting in the summer. It is difficult to know where to start with the confusion and cognitive dissonance shown in the Prime Minister’s statement. He is against attacking Iran because it has nuclear weapons, but he is willing to attack it because it has conventional weapons. On those conventional weapons, British sovereign territory in Akrotiri has been attacked, yet the Prime Minister is unwilling to use British RAF personnel to strike Iran. What would Iran, or any other state actor, have to do to this country for him to act?
- 24 Feb 2026 · Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor · Hansard source
More
He wants your job! [ Laughter. ]
- 4 Feb 2026 · Lord Mandelson · Hansard source
More
Given that—rightly, I think—the hon. Gentleman would not have appointed Peter Mandelson ambassador to the United States of America, does he think that the Prime Minister made the right decision, and will he ever again have confidence that the Prime Minister can make the right decision on any other national security issue?
- 27 Jan 2026 · Medical Training (Prioritisation) Bill · Hansard source
More
rose —
- 13 Jan 2026 · Puberty Suppressants · Hansard source
More
Part of the trial is to ask the child participants the Avon longitudinal study of parents and carers romantic relationships questionnaire. Is the Minister as concerned as I am that children under the age of 13 will be asked sexually explicit questions?
- 10 Dec 2025 · Resident Doctors: Industrial Action · Hansard source
More
These strikes will have a massive effect on my constituents in Farnham and Bordon. I am already getting emails from constituents who are concerned about the fact that their operations will be cancelled. The BMA is being entirely irrational and it holds the lion’s share of the blame for this situation, but the Secretary of State also has to take some responsibility for what is going on. If he gives the doctors a 29% pay rise with no strings attached, it is absolutely no surprise that they come back for more. I welcome the 4,000 extra places. I would like to press him on exactly where those 4,000 places will come. Would it not be better to have published that in the workforce plan, which is continually delayed by his Department? When will that workforce plan actually come about?
