Carolyn Harris MP: speeches
4 Jul 2025–3 Jul 2026
How these years work
Our reporting years run from 4 July to 3 July, starting with the 2024 general election. They are not official parliamentary sessions. Office costs keep IPSA’s April–March financial years. Records may cover only part of a year; a missing record does not mean no work was done.

Speeches
- 11 Jun 2026 · Legacy of Jo Cox · Hansard source
More
I certainly do. Jo’s vision is something I have tried desperately to live up to in all my political career. In Jo’s memory, 10 years on from her tragic and untimely death, I urge colleagues from all parties—even those who are not with us today—to remember what she stood for, to amplify her message and to encourage others to celebrate the wonderful diversity of our country.
- 21 Apr 2026 · Peter Mandelson: Government Appointment · Hansard source
More
I will be very brief, as I am not attempting to audition for a BAFTA, unlike some colleagues. Neither am I trying to attempt any factional point scoring, as some colleagues have done today. The Prime Minister himself said yesterday that Peter Mandelson should never have been appointed as our ambassador to the US, so let me ask simply this: can the Chief Secretary tell the House how the Prime Minister has changed the way due diligence and security vetting will be conducted before appointments are announced in the future?
- 19 Mar 2026 · Courts and Tribunals Bill · Hansard source
More
It should be a fundamental right to be safe at home. The Courts and Tribunals Bill delivers that for children in this country by removing the presumption of parental contact. Will the Solicitor General join me in paying tribute to the tireless campaigning of Claire Throssell, who has fought every day in Jack and Paul’s memory to put children’s safety in law, so no one else will have to suffer as they did?
- 12 Mar 2026 · Carnivals · Hansard source

As a senior member of the Welsh mafia, I am presumably the Godmother. I now call the Minister, and I remind him to make sure he leaves time at the end for the Member in charge to wind up.
- 6 Jan 2026 · BBC Charter Renewal · Hansard source

Order. I will have no chuntering from a sedentary position, please.
- 6 Jan 2026 · BBC Charter Renewal · Hansard source

I remind Members to bob so that I can ascertain who wishes to speak. I will be imposing a time limit. Sir John was very generous in taking interventions, but we need to keep interventions and responses much shorter to allow everyone to speak.
- 6 Jan 2026 · Therapeutic Play and Children’s Healthcare · Hansard source
More
Order. I assume that all Members who are bobbing have sought permission from both the Minister and the Member in charge to make a speech. They will need to be very short speeches, or else we will not get a response from the Minister.
- 26 Nov 2025 · Driving Test Availability: South-east · Hansard source
More
Order. I remind hon. Members that interventions are meant to be just that: a short intervention, not a speech.

Order. Before I call the Minister, may I ask her to wind up by 4.11 pm, so that we can allow Mr Holmes two minutes to sum up before I conclude the debate?
- 29 Oct 2025 · Independent Lifeboats: Government Support · Hansard source
More
Order. I am going to impose an informal six-minute time limit. I will start the winding-up speeches at 3.28 pm. Apparently, we are expecting a Division on a ten-minute rule Bill, but until we hear the bell, we will stick with 3.28 pm.
- 16 Oct 2025 · World Menopause Day · Hansard source
More
I thank all hon. Members for attending today. Your participation really gives me, my fellow menowarriors and all women faith that women’s health and welfare is a priority that cannot and will not be ignored. Question put and agreed to. Resolved, That this House has considered World Menopause Day.

As with any occasion when I spend time with my hon. Friend, that occasion is etched in my memory forever. Like other organisations, Tesco is doing some wonderful work for women. It is also important to recognise the work of the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers and the GMB, which play a huge part in promoting workplace policies for menopausal women. When next year we implement the plans for employers with more than 250 employees to have a menopause policy or framework in the workplace, a key measure of success will be the Department ensuring that we are monitoring those plans, so that they do not just get left in a cupboard to gather dust. This will be mandatory only for employers with more than 250 staff, and I welcome the changes, but from the correspondence I have received it is clear that thousands of women working for smaller companies want to know whether they will be supported. We are not talking about big changes: flexible working hours, breathable uniforms and comfortable working environments are small adjustments, but they make a huge difference. Employers in every sector rely on occupational health specialists to support the physical, mental and social wellbeing of their staff. They need to be given specialist menopause training. Imagine the number of women in their 40s, 50s and 60s that that would have helped. They might not have left work. They may return to work, or even stay and thrive in work.

Order. I remind Members that interventions need to be short, not a speech.
- 14 Oct 2025 · COP30: Food System Transformation · Hansard source

Order. I remind hon. Members that this is an hour-long debate. The hon. Member for South Cambridgeshire has already been very generous in allowing interventions, which has limited the time that Back Benchers have left to speak. We will start the Front-Bench speeches at 5.08 pm, so Back-Bench speeches are now limited to two and a half minutes. The Opposition party Front Benchers will have five minutes each and the Minister will have 10 minutes. Anyone who takes interventions is likely to upset colleagues.
- 17 Jul 2025 · Freedom of Religion or Belief: UK Foreign Policy · Hansard source

I call David Smith to quickly wind up.
