Anna Dixon MP: speeches

4 Jul 2025–3 Jul 2026

How these years work

Our reporting years run from 4 July to 3 July, starting with the 2024 general election. They are not official parliamentary sessions. Office costs keep IPSA’s April–March financial years. Records may cover only part of a year; a missing record does not mean no work was done.

Speeches

  • 16 Jun 2026 · Violence against Women and Girls · Hansard source
    More

    11. What steps she is taking with her international counterparts to help tackle violence against women and girls.

  • 16 Jun 2026 · Violence against Women and Girls · Hansard source
    More

I was moved to hear about Jo Cox’s life and the impact of her work on women globally in last week’s debate. She was a strong advocate for women’s rights and overseas development aid. Will the Secretary of State assure me that recent cuts to aid will not have an adverse impact on projects such as those I saw in Zimbabwe last year, which are helping to reduce the incidence of violence against women and girls?

  • 13 May 2026 · Debate on the Address · Hansard source
    More

The results in the Bradford district were some of the least representative, with Reform taking a majority of seats despite getting only 23% of the popular vote there. Does the right hon. Gentleman agree that, while Reform made gains in seats, it is not what the majority of people in this country support?

Will the hon. Gentleman give way?

  • 13 May 2026 · Debate on the Address · Hansard source
    More

The hon. Gentleman mentions Bradford district, and notes that Reform got the largest number of seats there. Does he recognise that the vast majority of people across the Bradford district—three quarters of them—voted for parties other than Reform UK? Does he also recognise that while Reform got seats, it is not popular?

  • 28 Apr 2026 · Park Home Owners · Hansard source
    More

I have been contacted by residents of the Harden and Bingley Park on Goit Stock Lane in Harden. They feel trapped in their relationship with the site owner, which they have said does nothing. On the 10% commission, they want to give the whole of their estate to their family as an inheritance. Does my hon. Friend agree that it is important that residents feed their views into the consultation, and that we make sure that the deal between park home owners and residents is fair and proportionate?

  • 21 Apr 2026 · Wind Farms: Protected Peatland · Hansard source
    More

I will give way briefly; I was about to finish.

  • 21 Apr 2026 · Wind Farms: Protected Peatland · Hansard source

As the Member for Shipley and a neighbouring constituent, I want to make those listening aware that we have attended the debate and will shortly be giving our views on the proposals, as the hon. Member invited us to do, for which I thank him.

  • 10 Feb 2026 · Young Children’s Screen Time · Hansard source
    More

I am sure that the Minister is aware that it is the National Year of Reading. On the wider opportunities to get our kids off their screens, would she commend the work of the National Literacy Trust in trying to restore the joy of reading, and perhaps share her favourite childhood book with us? Mine was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”.

  • 4 Feb 2026 · Lord Mandelson · Hansard source
    More

My hon. Friend has articulated very eloquently how we have come together in this House both to roundly condemn the role that Mandelson played in the corrupt web around Jeffrey Epstein and to say together that the full facts must be laid bare. I hope that he will join me in congratulating the Government on tabling a manuscript amendment proposing independent scrutiny by the ISC, so that it will oversee the disclosure of the appropriate documents.

    More

Will my hon. Friend give way?

  • 18 Dec 2025 · Animal Welfare Strategy · Hansard source
    More

I hope that you, Mr Speaker, like me and my family have already got your turkey ordered from the local butcher for Christmas. Like many of my constituents, I really care about animal welfare, so I look forward to the strategy being published next week. Will the Secretary of State outline the steps that the Government are taking to ensure that there is really clear labelling and communication, so that we can all be confident when we go and buy our Christmas turkey of the welfare of the animal we are eating?

  • 15 Dec 2025 · Violence against Women and Girls Strategy · Hansard source
    More

My hon. Friend has been refreshingly honest about how the delays in publishing the strategy have been about ensuring that it delivers where others have not. As the lead member of the Public Accounts Committee when we looked at the failures of the last Government’s 2021 strategy, I found that the Home Office failed to get commitment from other Government Departments. In delivering the ambitious target of halving violence against women and girls, will she ensure not only that every part of society responds but that every part of government delivers?

I thank the Minister for the reassurance that householders affected by faulty work will be getting an audit and that there will be remedies. Can he confirm when those letters will be going out, if they have not already, and whether they will be from Ofgem?

  • 20 Nov 2025 · Unpaid Carers: Inequalities · Hansard source
    More

I thank all Members who have spoken in the debate, especially my hon. Friends the Members for Scarborough and Whitby (Alison Hume) and for Bexleyheath and Crayford (Daniel Francis) for sharing their moving personal stories and for all they do as parent carers. I also thank the right hon. Member for Daventry (Stuart Andrew), who is caring for his father. It is important that we, as Members, speak up about our caring. I thank the Minister for his response. I and other Members will continue to push him to ensure that the Government deliver for carers. I thank all carers in my constituency of Shipley for all the love and care that they give 24/7 all year round, and the 5.7 million people in the so-called invisible army that has been talked about today. Let us make sure that they do not stay invisible. Question put and agreed to. Resolved, That this House has considered inequalities faced by unpaid carers.

    More

    Will the Minister give way?

  • 4 Nov 2025 · Supporting High Streets · Hansard source
    More

My hon. Friend makes an excellent point about the number of pop-up shops and illegal traders on the high street. I am running a petition about the antisocial use of fireworks; does she agree that more needs to be done to stop their illegal sale in pop-up shops?

  • 21 Oct 2025 · Sentencing Bill · Hansard source
